Do I need a qualified electrician to change a fuse box?

Yes. Replacing a consumer unit is notifiable electrical work. It must be carried out by a qualified electrician, tested and certified to show it meets the wiring regulations and building regulations.

How long does it take to replace a fuse box?

Most replacements take between two and five hours. It depends on the condition of the existing installation, the earthing arrangements and whether any faults need putting right first.

Can a fuse box be replaced without rewiring the whole house?
